Edie Adams, the Tony Award-winning actress and singer, died yesterday in Los Angeles at the age of 81. Her publicist has confirmed that the cause of death was pneumonia and cancer. The Associated Press has an obit with a detailed account of her long career in showbusiness, which included “bringing Daisy Mae to life on Broadway” and playing the television foil to her husband, comedian Ernie Kovacs.”

Publicist Henri Bollinger says Adams died in Los Angeles Wednesday from cancer and pneumonia. Adams was a graduate of the Juilliard School of Music and hoped to become an opera singer. Instead, she gained fame for her sketches with Kovacs and her pivotal roles in Broadway musicals. She also had a long stage and film career. from any source
